The Cardiff is the very essence of what a mid-priced round profile reel should be. Robust, responsive, and easy to use, it is built with a lightweight HAGANE aluminum body and a machined aluminum spool for maximum durability. Perfect for large lures in both freshwater and saltwater, this compact reel offers precision, strength, and value in a complete package.
If you are looking for a reel to handle larger lures than your regular reel can manage, or want a small round reel for saltwater use, the Cardiff could be the perfect choice. Although it lacks some of the technologies found in Shimano's high-end models, you can fully rely on this attractive silver-bronzed and gold workhorse. It will cast medium and large lures better and, just as importantly, retrieve them with the strength and smoothness needed for maximum effect. Or, if you prefer, pair it with your light jigging rods for saltwater and enjoy targeting medium-sized predators.
The Cardiff fully leverages its ultra-strong HAGANE body. Lightweight yet very sturdy, it provides the perfect foundation for Shimano's high-quality construction, further supported by the inclusion of a machined aluminum spool. The handle is also aluminum. When designing the Cardiff, weakness was certainly not a factor. Casting is controlled by Shimano's VBS (Variable Brake System), which can be adjusted according to lure size, conditions, and casting style. The smallest 201A is the most versatile and will handle light-medium to large lures; the 301A is a perfect compromise for large lures, while the 401A proves truly effective with the largest lures.
