The Smith Shugendo rods represent a fusion of Japanese tradition and technological innovation, offering fishing enthusiasts high-quality tools for various techniques and environments. The term “Shugendo” refers to a Japanese spiritual practice aiming for harmony between man and nature, a concept that Smith has embodied in this line of fishing rods.
1) Design and Materials
The Shugendo range was developed after over two years of testing and refinements, aiming to meet the needs of the most demanding anglers. The rods are made using a mix of carbon fibers with various moduli (36T, 40T, and 46T) assembled in different proportions depending on the model, action, and intended use of each rod. The Hexa Cross Construction consists of a high-modulus carbon fiber weave applied to the blank in 8 different directions to create a reinforcement network that ensures maximum strength in the areas subjected to the greatest stress.
All rods in the SHUGENDO collection are equipped with Fuji Slim Sic guides featuring corrosion-resistant frames, making them suitable for use in marine environments. The high number of guides, mounted according to the K-Concept system, promotes maximum smoothness, precision, and sensitivity. Each rod features a high-density EVA non-slip handle, a bait holder hook, and alignment marks on the sections to facilitate perfect assembly.
2) Innovative Technologies
The Shugendo rods incorporate several advanced technologies to enhance performance:
- Helical Core Construction: This helical construction of the blank increases the rod's strength and durability while maintaining its lightness.
- X-Joint Construction: This honeycomb carbon joint improves the rod's flexibility and responsiveness, offering a more natural bend during fish fighting.
- Hexa Cross Construction: A hexagonal weave of high-modulus carbon fibers applied to the blank that provides greater stability and control, improving casting accuracy.
A mini series of 3-section Travel rods. From the first grip, the ideal handle length and perfect ergonomics are appreciated, combined with a top-quality EVA handle that promotes comfort and precision in lure animation and hook setting.
As with the entire SHUGENDO range, the balance is optimal, combined with a higher number of guides and their distribution, which further increase bite detection and lure control.
