In addition to saving a lot of time, the Kamakura sharpening process is comparable to hand-sharpened hooks. The Kamakura Wide Gape model, a new version of a classic design, features a much thinner and sharper hook, which will likely need to be replaced after each catch. It is a very curved model with an eye slightly turned inward, a short shank, and a beak point. It tends to maintain its position once submerged and can be used with various pop-up and sinking bait presentations. The point is protected by a wax coating that must be gently removed before use. It is sold in packs of ten hooks, each securely held in place to prevent damage. Available with or without a barb and in sizes 4, 6, or 8.
