Pellets made with halibut meal are an excellent bait for all fish species, especially barbel and chub. We have taken this pellet and enriched it with a concentrated garlic and cheese flavor. The garlic and cheese aroma is very strong, ideal for use in flowing or murky waters since the smell is strong enough to attract fish to the bait. This black halibut pellet can also be used dry through a feeder; in fact, a common method is to insert the 4 mm version inside a maggot feeder to create a scent trail and a slow release of the content downstream. They can also be used through a mesh feeder or a River feeder simply by moistening them with water. For this preparation, just put the required amount of pellets in a container and pour a little water over them until the surface of the pellets is covered. Then wait 30 minutes, stirring every 5 minutes to ensure the water is absorbed evenly so that the water is fully absorbed. The pellets will soften slightly, allowing them to bind together once placed inside an open-end mesh feeder. The release speed can be adjusted by compressing more or less during loading to keep them in the feeder longer. Generally, at the start of a session, when you want to create a bed of bait, a lightly compressed load is needed to allow fast dispersion, but as the session progresses, it is possible to create a more compressed feeder to slow the release rate.
